We have witnessed two devastating hurricanes in 2024 that destroyed homes, and left victims without life's essentials. This made me wonder: what can I do besides Facebook posts of sympathy? I came up with Writers4Relief. Suppose writers from across America, across the world, contributed stories that could be published and sold to the vast number of sympathetic readers as inexpensive eBooks. Suppose a $2 eBook generated $1 to relief agencies like Feeding America, The American Red Cross, and designated charities in times of trouble. Suppose we could raise $1000 a month to help just by doing what we love best: writing, reading, and sharing?
Testing so far shows it can be done. People want to help.
I have learned different ways to create attractive eBooks that can be sold on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Apple Books and other retailers. Taking Word docs or PDFs from the writers, I will make eBooks that not only offer the fine work donated, but provide contact and marketing pages for each author, including Author Bio, Links to Author's Websites and Blogs, Other Works By Author, Author Photo, Author Comments and Contact, and Previews of Upcoming Works By Author. And at the Writers4Relief website, a blog post will be assigned to each donor author offering an easy way to find submissions and links.
Anyone with a book for sale at Amazon gets bombarded by emails and texts from people wanting to provide, marketing or SEO or edit services. Suppose we find out who is real and who is not by asking them to help market Writers4Relief in exchange for backlinks to their websites?
And, those agencies I have verified and joined as an affiliate will have those links posted on a special page. For example, Bowker provides ISBN and copyright services. Many self-publishing writers do not understand the value of having their own ISBNs rather than the random assignments from Amazon or Draft2Digital, which do not get shared at IngramSpark, who generates their own ISBNs. You can end up with multiple ISBNs at Amazon so no one can find your book, your reviews are scattered all over, and your sales go into the tank. We can help with tips on How To Not Get Ripped-off.
